How to act around your ex who dumped you?

How to act around your ex who dumped you?

Ideally, it would be best if you and your ex could remain on amicable terms; especially if it’s someone you’re bound to keep seeing often because of where you live, your work, or another reason.

Unfortunately, holding no grudges and being civil is not always possible after an ugly break-up. If your ex is the one who chose to end things, it can be tough to see them moving on while you’re still struggling to get over the relationship. The most important thing is to focus on your own healing process.

This is why we will address that first in this article before we give you a couple of tips on how you should act and be around this specific ex! If you wonder: “How to act around my ex who dumped me?”, then you will have the right answer once you finish reading this article.

What you need to do, first:

Now that everything is done and what happened, happened: the best thing you can do is focus on yourself. Don’t try to compare yourself to your ex or force yourself into a relationship before you’re ready.

Take the time you need to work through your feelings and get to a place where you’re comfortable being single again. When you’re ready, reach out to your friends and family for support in getting back out into the dating world. And above all else, remember that you deserve happiness just as much as anyone else does.

You can even keep yourself and progress in check by seeing if you’re displaying any of these signs that you’re over someone or the signs that you’re healing after a break-up. The more you will be able to tell that you’re finally breaking free, the more energized, happy, and ready to live life to the fullest you will be!

How to act around an ex who broke up with you?

This is all good and amazing but if you find yourself not knowing how to act and be around that same ex that dumped you so easily like you were disposable; then here are a few tips:

1- Ignore your ex like they don’t exist:

It can get tough when your ex dumps you. You might feel humiliated, rejected, and like you want to curl up in a ball and die. But it’s important to remember that an ex that didn’t care about you at all, is not worth your dignity or self-respect.

In this case, the best thing to do is ignore them like they don’t exist. Don’t beg or plead for them to take you back, don’t even look in their direction if you have to be in the same space as them. Most importantly, don’t try to get revenge by dating their friends or spreading rumors about them.

Just let them go, treat them like you’d treat a ghost that you cannot see nor hear, and focus on moving on with your life. It might be hard at first, but eventually, you’ll be able to move on and find someone who appreciates and loves you for who you are.

But, if your ex is literally your boss or a colleague you have to work with closely and there’s just no way around interacting with them. Then be very formal, civil, and as professional as you can be. In the meantime, try looking for a job elsewhere.

Or, if they are living with you then you can check this article out later on how to ignore someone who lives with you. And, you can also check this one out on why you should get out of there as soon as you can and never accept living with an ex, especially one that dumped you.

2- Pretend to be very happy and unaffected:

When someone dumps us they clearly don’t care much about hurting our feelings and they probably want to see us hurt, if possible. And we understand that you will feel hurt to some extent. It’s only natural to feel angry, and even humiliated after a breakup, especially when you see them moving on while you’re still struggling to get over the breakup.

However, it’s important to remember that they are not worth your time or energy. And, the last thing you want is for them to see how much they succeeded in hurting you. So put on a brave face and pretend like you don’t care. Eventually, you’ll start to believe in yourself.

If you can help it, try to steer clear of your ex. There’s no need to torture yourself by constantly running into them or constantly having to pretend like you’re the happiest person alive. However, whenever you find yourself cornered and have to be in their presence in some way then it is best to act unaffected, happy, and carefree.

This way they start doubting how much you cared about them and you get to make an important point. The point is that even though they have dumped you first, maybe you were just as done with them and waiting for an exit strategy to get rid of them just as much as they were looking for one to get rid of you!
