A normal thing to feel is that we aren’t in the stage of our lives we expected to be at, by this time. This is one negative and crippling feeling that can weigh heavy on us.
In the end, if you’re feeling this way the best thing to do is to stay positive and focus on doing your best to better your situation. That could be achieved by eliminating any destructive habits in your life that prevent you from reaching the success, you wished for.
If you have no clue what those might be, here are five destructive habits that could sound familiar to you.
1. Waking up late:
We are all victims of the never-ending problem that there aren’t enough hours in a day, to do everything we need. It’s clear that there won’t be any more hours in a day any time soon. So what you need to do is find ways of getting the most out of the ones you have.
That’s why waking up late will make you feel that your days are shorter. You can indeed stay up until late to compensate for the missed hours but don’t you get the frustrating feeling of ending up feeling tired around the same hour as you would if you had awoken earlier?
That means that, even though you are waking up late in the day, you probably are going to bed late as well, which doesn’t give you enough quality hours of sleep, thus making you feel tired.
Trying to wake up early when you’ve had a very different sleeping schedule for a long time can feel impossible. What you need to do is make the transition gradually. Start going hour by hour until you feel comfortable with your new sleeping schedule. Also, remember that deviating from your bedtime once in a while won’t necessarily affect the hour you wake up.
2. Not having a financial plan:
When we get our first job and start earning our own money, it seems that it’s very easy to get everything we have been wanting. So we don’t exactly create a financial plan to be in control of our expenses and savings. If you do this for a long time, you will end up spending a lot of money that could have been put aside and been spent on more relevant things.
Having a financial plan gives you stability, it allows you to plan and make predictions for your different stages in life. Most people only start caring about a financial plan when they want to buy a house, a car, or go on a big trip, but that shouldn’t be the case. Bad unpredictable events where you may need money may also occur, like your landlord giving you notice to move out of their property or a health issue or losing your job, etc.
Once you start earning money, you should start making a list of all the goals in your life that involve money. Prioritizing those goals and setting dates for them, is a smart first step. If you do this, you will probably have enough liquidity to afford the things you want and maybe even some extras.
3. Neglecting your health:
If you are lucky to not have any serious health issues then it’s natural that you don’t go to the doctor as many times as you should. Many people are like this, because we put other needs first, which we think are more important or relevant.
When we are young, it’s easy to disregard health and think that we will only go to the doctor, if we feel ill. Or, that a regular medical check-up is not necessary. What we don’t realize is that, by going to the doctor regularly, we could prevent health issues that could manifest when we are older. By that time, it will be harder and more expensive to treat them.
The same goes for our eating and exercising habits. Our bodies can better withstand a poor diet and the lack of physical movement when they’re younger. However, as we grow older, the slightest thing can throw us off balance. Creating good eating and exercising habits at a young age is essential if we want to live a quality life for more years.
4. Not having defined goals:
It’s completely normal not to know what to do with our lives at some point. It could be either because we failed our goals or we didn’t establish any at all.
However, defining our goals for our life can give us a sense of security and confidence because we will know what our next step will be. By creating a list of the things you want to achieve in life, you will also learn more about yourself and about the things that interest you in life.

5. Tend towards procrastination:
We have all been victims of procrastinating habits and we know how frustrating it can be. For those who are still a victim of this, remember that you should never leave anything that you can do today for tomorrow.
It’s easier said than done, right? We find it incredibly hard to physically move and put our brains to work when we need to. If you suffer from this, what you need to do is find the cause of this procrastination. It could be that you don’t like your space of work or office or that you’re not well-rested. Once you find it and deal with it, you’ll be able to finish all your tasks on time.
