4 signs you’re healing from a breakup

Going through a break-up is never easy, but it is important to remember that although it is challenging it can be done and over with quickly.

Whether you were the one who ended things or you were the one who was left behind, the end of a relationship can be tough to deal with. But even though it may feel like your world is crumbling, it is important to remember that this is not the end. Life will go on, and you will find happiness again.

So here are some signs to help you decide whether you or someone else healed or are already started healing from a break-up:

Signs you’re healing from a break-up:

1- You took the time to grieve and feel better now:

If the first step after the break-up was for you to take the time to grieve, then it was a brilliant choice. It is normal to feel sad, angry and confused after a break-up, but it is important to allow yourself to process these emotions.

If you gave yourself time to grieve and allowed yourself to feel sad, angry, and hurt; before you started feeling better and happier then chances are you did the right thing. It is always better to tolerate sadness first for some time rather than skipping the grieving stage and always feeling like you have unresolved feelings.

You should’ve cried if you needed to, just as long as you don’t wallow in your sorrows for too long. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel, and eventually, you will start to feel better, happier, and fresh as a daisy again.

So if you still didn’t do any of this, take a day or two or feel sad, remember the relationship and grieve it before you kick it all out of your mind. Don’t try to numb the pain. It may be tempting to drink away your sorrows or indulge in unhealthy comfort food, but these coping mechanisms will only make you feel worse in the long run.

Instead of numbing the pain, face it head-on and allow yourself to process what you’re feeling. If you do this properly then it can be a good indicator that you’re on the path of healing from that ugly break-up!

2- You catch yourself being happy again:

Additionally, it is important to have reached out for support from family and friends. They can provide an invaluable source of comfort and advice. But more importantly, they can also help you laugh again, forget and live funny or beautiful moments where you catch yourself being genuinely happy again.

When you catch yourself being happy again; even if you are happy for just a moment and you fully forget that your ex ever existed for only a split second, then it is a sign that you are moving on. This shows that you have started to rebuild your life and focus on your other relationships and friendships.

When you start to focus on your own happiness again, it is a sign that you are healing. When you start finding it a good idea to plan a picnic or barbecue day with your relatives or friends; then you’re genuinely taking interest in living your life to the fullest again.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have forgotten all that happened between you and your ex. You may never forget what happened indeed, but eventually what needs to be done is to be able to look back on the experience, be happy, unaffected, and accepting of how it ended. You will start seeing it as a lesson and a positive experience that will contribute to making you who you are.

3- You find yourself thinking less and less about your ex:

You no longer think about your ex all the time; when you can go for hours or even a day without thinking about them, it means that you are starting to heal. If you no longer compare every new person to your ex; this is a big one too.

When you can start dating again without constantly comparing the new person to your ex, or even thinking about them then it means that you are finally ready to move on.

Also, if you’re enjoying your own company again, without any thoughts about what could’ve been or what you lost then it’s a good sign. When you’re in a relationship, it’s easy to forget how to enjoy your own company. At first, you might find yourself filling every moment with activities so that you don’t have to be alone with your thoughts because they’re probably all revolving around your ex.

But as you start to heal from the break-up, you’ll find that you’re actually enjoying your own company without being threatened by any intrusive negative or sad thoughts about anyone from the past. And this goes for any bad or hurtful memories or trauma you have retained from the past and not just break-ups. Check this article out later on how to forgive, forget and stop living in the past.

4- You started caring about your appearance again:

If you started taking interest in looking your best again then it is important to note that you might have healed from the break-up. In the grieving phase after the breakup, you obviously would’ve been sad and didn’t care much about looking presentable or putting your best effort into your appearance.

In fact, if you’ve gone through a break-up, you know the drill. You spend a few days; or weeks, or months; moping around, feeling sorry for yourself, and indulging in all of your favorite comfort foods. You might even think that you’ll never be able to move on. But eventually, the pain starts to fade and you start to pick yourself back up again.

However, if you slowly start caring again about matching the colors of your outfit and looking elegant, presentable, and even gorgeous then you might be moving on. Yes, after a break-up, it’s common to let your appearance go. You might even stop showering regularly, or start wearing sweatpants all the time. But as you start to heal, you’ll find yourself caring about your appearance again.

You’ll start showering regularly, doing your hair and makeup, and wearing clothes that make you feel good about yourself. If maintaining a healthy lifestyle becomes a priority, along with spending time with positive people, and doing things that make you happy then you’re on the way to becoming yourself again.
