4 signs your friend doesn’t care about you

Everyone has had a friend who doesn’t seem to care about them, but it can be hard to tell if they’re really not interested or if they’re just going through a tough time.

Here are some signs that your friend may not be as invested in the friendship as you are:

Signs your friend doesn’t care about your friendship:

1- They cancel plans often:

One clear sign that your friend doesn’t care about you is if they always cancel plans with you at the last minute. Keep in mind that a friend is someone you can rely on, whether you need a shoulder to cry on or someone to celebrate with. They’re the people you can always count on, no matter what.

So, it’s pretty obvious when you have a friend who just doesn’t care. If you can never find your friend when you need them, then it’s bad news.

They may cancel plans often, whether it’s because they’re “too busy” or something “more important” came up. The keyword here is “more important”, which will tell you pretty much where you stand in their list of priorities and important things. So, if they’re constantly flaking on you, it shows that they don’t value your time or friendship.

2- They never initiate contact:

There are a lot of signs that could show that your friend doesn’t care about you, but one of the most telling is if they never initiate contact. If weeks go by and you don’t hear from them unless you reach out first, it’s a pretty good indication that they’re not thinking about you.

They may not be deliberately trying to ignore you, but if they’re not making an effort to stay in touch, it’s a sign that they don’t value your friendship as much as you do.

If you feel like you are always the one initiating discussions or plans between you and your friend, that is a sign that they might not care as much about your friendship as you do. They should be just as eager to catch up and hang out as you are; if they’re not, it’s easy for them to take your friendship for granted.

Of course, there could be other reasons why they’re not reaching out, so it’s important to stay in communication and try to figure out what’s going on. But if it feels like you’re always the one doing the work in every scenario or situation of life, then it’s not a good thing. If you’re always the one to try and keep the friendship alive, it might be time to let it go.

3- They never ask you about your life:

If you notice that your friend never bothers to ask how you’re doing or how your day was, it’s a pretty clear sign that they don’t really care about you. It’s human nature to be curious about how our loved ones are doing, so if your friend never shows any interest in your life, it’s a red flag.

Maybe, they never ask how you’re doing, and they never seem to really care in the first place. They’re always too wrapped up in their own drama to bother with you. And when you do finally see them, they always seem to be more interested in talking about themselves than actually listening to you.

In other words, if your friend is always talking about themselves and never bothers to listen to you when you’re trying to talk, it means they’re not interested in hearing about your life. It also means that they don’t mind using you for support and comfort but don’t want you to have any expectations of them in return.

4- They don’t reciprocate your kindness:

One last sign that your friend doesn’t care what happens to you and couldn’t care less is if they never return favors or do anything nice for you unless you’ve done something for them first.

This shows that they only care about what’s convenient for them, not about being kind for the sake of it. For example, let’s say you do them a huge favor by taking care of their cat while they’re out of town for a week. When they get back, you might expect them to at least offer to take you out for coffee as a thank-you.

But if they don’t even bother to acknowledge what you did for them, that’s a pretty clear sign that they don’t care about you and only want to take advantage of you.

Also, you should be alarmed if they never make any gestures of kindness, even when it would be easy for them to do so. For example, maybe you invited them to your birthday party but they didn’t bother to get you a present, even though they had plenty of time to do so. And, even though you got them presents during for their birthday and it made them thrilled.

Bottom line:

If you’re noticing any of these things, it’s okay to reach out and see if there’s anything going on. But if your friend consistently blows you off or makes you feel like you’re not a priority, it might be time to move on.

There are plenty of people out there who would love to be your friend, so don’t waste your time on someone who doesn’t appreciate you.
